Could your mental and physical health be connected?
I was DEPRESSED, SAD, ANXIOUS, and OVERWHELMED.
In my 20’s I was diagnosed with PPMD and took SARAFEM (Prozac) as the solution to “hopefully” bring PEACE.
There is ZERO judgment here but on these meds, I personally felt numbed out, fatigued and dizzy, not HAPPY, HEALTHY and VIBRANT.
My problems were not resolving, but compounding.
This “solution” was in the middle of a long line of other pharmaceutical interventions that had been used on me.
I felt HOPELESS. I was at a loss because nothing seemed to be helping.
NOURISHING YOUR SOUL, MOVING YOUR BODY, HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES, SLEEP, and WATER INTAKE all have significant impact on your MENTAL HEALTH and ALL areas of your WELLNESS.
At the time I was completely unaware that my problematic daily choices and previous medical directives were negatively impacting my hormones leading to further and far greater HEALTH issues.
I was caught up in a CYCLE. A cycle that left me feeling depleted in too many areas of my life.
My HORMONES were completely imbalanced but getting to the actual root of the problem was not considered.
Sadly, none of the above wellness practices were ever mentioned to me as a viable solution or even as a foundation on which we could build.
Do you ever feel that your MENTAL HEALTH impacts your degree of WELLNESS or vice versa? The two can be deeply connected.
My mental health crisis was directly related to my imbalanced hormone levels.
My imbalanced hormone levels were directly related to my poor daily choices, both of my own accord and under medical advisement.
It’s a struggle to find the motivation to work out, eat healthy and be your own WELLNESS ADVOCATE when you feel absolutely HORRIBLE. I GET IT!
I understand, too, that we are all doing THE BEST we can with the knowledge we have in each season we walk through.
I tried desperately to mask my anxiety and sadness but it showed up in my relationship with food.
I would practice extreme measures, allowing myself small amounts of food or divulging in copious amounts of processed, sugar-laden snacks and meals.
They all left me feeling greater fatigue, constant hunger and the frustration of weight gain. I was a MESS. I felt MISERABLE. OVERWHELM had become my norm.
And while going through all of this, I allowed the WORDS I SPOKE to keep me on this life-leeching hamster wheel.
I felt bad and I spoke it over myself EACH and EVERYDAY.
My BELIEF was that I would always feel this way. There was no HOPE for my healing either physically or mentally.
I was WRONG.
I’m being vulnerable because I know many would never guess I had ever struggled with these very real storms.
I also know that some of you may be going through similar challenges at this very moment.
It’s a reminder that EVERYONE has hills they must climb, a deeper story lurking behind what SEEMS apparent to watchful eyes and a lesson for us all if we can truly listen.
I’m here to tell you, THERE IS HOPE!
LITTLE BY LITTLE, STEP BY STEP I began making small changes.
LONG LASTING TRANSFORMATION begins in the SMALL CHANGES done CONSISTENTLY over time. Micro movements.
I LOST WEIGHT, HEALED my BODY and RENEWED my mind.
I got back on track in my RELATIONSHIP with the LORD and created HEALTHY HABITS throughout my life ONE DAY AT A TIME.
Nourishing and nurturing the SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY is of utmost importance.
I gave myself more GRACE, SPOKE WORDS that were life-giving, not depleting and placed my faith and trust in my creator who I knew had GOOD in store for me.
I reminded myself that I wasn’t alone on this journey. God had never left me and He was with me even at my lowest.
